Back when Drinking wasn't y'alls style Back when girls weren't worth our while Back when time was always free Working on cars reading magazines Stupid arguments for conversation Heavy metal on the radio station My friends all changed and no they're gone I'm all alone I'm pressing on Chorus And all I really want's just a coke and a smile It's been to long, it's been a while All I really want's just a coke and a smile It's been to long, it's been a while I'm so lonely, so tired, so blue So lonely, so tired, how bout you? Back when I had a mom that cared Back when my cousin had a dad that was there Simple things one takes for granted A whole made lunch a mom made sandwich Getting picked up after school Extra covers when the nights are to cool I guess I'm stronger I don't know I just don't let my feelings out the door Chorus Now my life's based on GPA That's how they say I'll be somebody someday I'd like to think I was someone now I'd like to think that I knew how to Make it through my twenty hour day And at the end have something to say But it just seems I'm passing time I've got a progress pause till the end of my life

It's all small town talk, you know how people are They can't stand to see, someone else doing what they like to It's all small town talk, you mustn't pay no mind Don't believe a word, they'll try to do it every time You can't believe everything you hear And only half of what you see And if you're gonna believe in anyone You gotta believe in me It's all small town talk, and it's a well known fact You don't ever know how one might react to what you're thinking And in small town talk, you tell a lot of lies Make some people crazy, they never realize that they're sinking We're only two people, trying to live together Trying to make something work Who are we to judge one another? That could cause a lot of hurt It's all small town talk, you know how people are They can't stand to see, someone else doing what they want to It's all small town talk, you mustn't pay no mind Don't believe a word, they'll try to do it every time

Irma Jackson 02:22
I'd love to shout my feelin's from a mountain high Tell the world I love her and I will till I die There's no way the world will understand that love is color blind That's why Irma Jackson can't be mine I remember when no one cared about us bein' friends We were only children and it really didn't matter then But we grew up too quickly in a world that draws a line Where they say Irma Jackson can't be mine If my lovin' Irma Jackson is a sin Then I don't understand this crazy world we're livin' in It’s a muddy wall between us standin' high But I'll love Irma Jackson till I die She tells me she's decided that she'll go away And I guess it's right but she alone should have the final say But in spite of her decision forcin' us to say goodbye I'll still love Irma Jackson till I die

Feeling low, in control I might be high, but at least I try Took off your dress, I must confess Do you believe, in what you can not see? I believe Jesus Christ, this is the age of reason Ain't that nice, I ain't got no feelings I worry you, you worry me I'll have my drinks, you'll have your tea I worry me, you worry you We're not quite sure, what we should do Ain't that the truth Jesus Christ, this is the age of reason Ain't that nice, I ain't got no feelings

Ruby 02:47
You've painted up your lips and rolled and curled your tinted hair. Ruby are you contemplating going out somewhere? The shadows on the wall tell me the sun is going down. Oh Ruby, don't take your love to town. For it wasn't me that started that old crazy Asian war. But I was proud to go and do my patriotic chores. And yes it's true, that I'm not the man I used to be. Oh, Ruby, I still need some company. It's hard to love a man whose legs are bent and paralized. And the wants and the needs of a woman your age, Ruby, I realize. But it won't be long I heard them say until I'm not around. Oh Ruby, don't take your love to town. She's leaving now cause I just heard the slamming of a door. The way I know I've heard it slam one hundred times before. And if I could move I'd get my gun and put her in the ground. Oh Ruby, don't take your love to town. Oh Ruby, for God's sake turn around.

Deportees 03:39
The crops are all in and the peaches are rotting, The oranges are piled in their creosote dumps; They're flying 'em back to the Mexico border To pay all their money just to wade back again My father's own father, he waded that river, They took all the money he made in his life; My brothers and sisters come working the fruit trees, they rode the trucks till they took down and died. Chorus Goodbye to my Juan, goodbye, Rosalita, Adios mis amigos, Jesus y Maria; You won't have your names when you ride the big airplane, All they will call you will be "deportees" Some of us are illegal, and some are not wanted, Our work contract's out and we have to move on; It’s 600 miles to that Mexico border, They chase us like outlaws, like rustlers, like thieves. We died in your hills, we died in your deserts, We died in your valleys and died on your plains. We died 'neath your trees and we died in your bushes... Both sides of the river, we died just the same. Chorus The sky plane caught fire over Los Gatos Canyon, A fireball of lightning that shook all our hills,s Who are all these friends, all scattered like dry leaves? The radio says, "They are just deportees" Is this the best way we can grow our big orchards? Is this the best way we can grow our good fruit? To fall like dry leaves to rot on my topsoil... And to be called by no name except "deportees"?

Dream 03:15
Last night I dreamt of you You have the prettiest smile in the world Why did you leave me here You're still my girl Last night was beautiful I love having you around Remembering your perfect smile Sure brings me down Chorus I'd say I love you, I'd say I care I'd say I need you, but you're not here God why'd you take her, away from me You do not need you have everything We were driving in my car Listening to cds I was showing you something that I loved While you were loving me Your voice it kissed my ears Your presence made me high Right now I'm working so hard But I'm barely getting by Chorus

Sam Stone 04:05
Sam Stone came home, to his wife and family, after serving in the conflict overseas. And the time that he served, had shattered all his nerves, and left a little shrapnel in his knee. But the morphine eased the pain, and the grass grew round his brain, and gave him all the confidence he lacked; with a Purple Heart and a monkey on his back. Chorus: There's a hole in daddy's arm where all the money goes, and Jesus Christ died for nothin' I suppose. Little pitchers have big ears, don't stop to count the years, sweet songs never last too long on broken radios. Mmm.... Sam Stone's welcome home, didn't last too long, he went to work when he'd spent his last dime And Sammy took to stealing, when he got that empty feeling, for a hundred dollar habit without overtime. And the gold rolled through his veins, like a thousand railroad trains, and eased his mind in the hours that he chose; while the kids ran around wearin' other peoples' clothes... Chorus Sam Stone was alone, when he popped his last balloon, climbing walls while sitting in a chair Well, he played his last request, while the room smelled just like death, with an overdose hovering in the air But life had lost its fun, and there was nothing to be done, but trade his house that he bought on the G, I. Bill; for a flag draped casket on a local heroes' hill Chorus

about

In mid-April 2020 the "L" fell off of the OK Theatre marquee. Inspired, Bart Budwig and Ben Walden put together a folky batch of covers and original tunes including some of our favorite songwriters like John Prine, Merle Haggard, and Woody Guthrie.
